KANDI

The first time I heard of Kandi Burruss was in 2009, when she was on the Real Housewives of Atlanta. I did not realize she was a former member of Xscape, a female R&B group in the 1990s. Kandi is a singer-songwriter and
record producer. Kandi’s song writing skill as earned her an award as the first African-American women ever to win ASCAP’s Songwriter of the Year award in 2000.

In 1999 Kandi wrote songs for TLC “No Scrubs” which we all know won all kind of rewards. After that Kandi was on a roll, she wrote three more hits for Destiny’s Child’s second album “The Writing’s on the Wall”, “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Bug A Boo”. Kandi kept going she wrote “There You Go”
for newcomer Pink. Kandi’s writing credits grew, she wrote for artist like Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Boyz II Men, Da Brat, N-Toon, NSYNC, Solo, Usher, Fantasia, Mya, Joe, MC Lyte and Whitney Houston.

In 2009 I heard a song Kandi wrote “Fly Above” on a episode of the Real Housewives of Atlanta. I was not feeling the way she sung the song, but the lyrics had a good message. I can relate to the 1st verse so well, “I am so comfortable in the skin I'm in, I'm secure about who I am, so you go ahead and talk all you wanna, I built up a shell and it's hard as
armor. It seems like every step I take up, drama comes along with the bread I cake up. But you ain't doing nothin if you don't have haters, so I welcome you to do what's in your nature.”

Kandi has a new album out called Kandi Koated it was released on December 2010 the lead single “Leave U” debuted 89th on the Billboard’s Hot
R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. You can listen to this album on Streetwise Radio.
Kandi is a talented songwriter; I hope her solo career goes just as well.
